I used to work for the gold mines near Elko as an engineer. I tooled around northeast Nevada for a couple years; all the way from the Jarbidge forest on the northern border to the Rubies and the mountain ranges south of Elko. I panned...More

It's a 12 miles paved road in and the same road out. There is restrooms at the end and lots of hiking trail throughout.

Summers in Lamoille are great for hiking, picnicking and camping, and winters are perfect for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The area is about thirty minutes (by car) from Elko, and it's great for solo explorers or the whole family.

The raid is curvy but not so technically challenging that you can't take time to enjoy the beautiful high desert scenery. Road is in excellent repair and well marked.

Lamoille Canyon is absolutely stunning. We only had 1/2 day to experience it which allowed for a great scenic drive and a 2.5, 4 mile rugged hike to Dollar Lakes and the Lamoille Lake. Even thought it is end of June there was still a...More

On our drive from Ely Nevada to Great Basin National Park, the road takes one to a section of the Humboldt National Forest. There are pretty trees and mountain vistas to see. There is also hiking and more to do in this area.

Not sure about the park boundaries, but we went hiking and exploring among the glacier-carved valleys of Lamoille Canyon in the Ruby Mountains. BLM land so it's free day hiking. We saw snow, beaver dams, waterfalls, and lots of pretty flowers. Even the easy nature...More
