The Nevada Northern Railway is a non-profit historical foundation whose mission is to maintain and operate what has been acclaimed as the best preserved railroad facility in the United States. Come, enjoy history with us! We offer 90 minute train rides up toward the historic Ruth Copper Mine, as well as a view into the history of what put this mining town on the map. Don't miss the included tour of the Engine House and yard after the train ride. You can see the facility that has been servicing these steam locomotives for over a century now. For the serious rail fan, we offer the opportunity to be at the throttle (and brakes!) Of a real, standard-gauge, steam locomotive on your own private run "up the hill."

My husband and I took the old steam engine train ride. It was amazing! They have coach cars with windows that open, an open air car, and for extra money, you could ride in the locamotive or caboose! The conductor, brakemen and all the staff...More

Lynne, Please accept my deepest apologies on your not being acknowledged when you visited us. This is not the way we conduct business, we made a mistake. Where no manager wants to read a negative review, I appreciate the fact that you took the time...More

Had a great time visiting the Railroad Museum! Rode 3 trains over the space of 3 days: Valley Vista - Diesel, Robinson Canyon - Steam, and the Steptoe Valley Flyer. Each train had great narration provided by the host. Toured part of the grounds, and...More

Well run steam train exhibit! Worth the trip, if you love steam history. Good hotels nearby, so you do not have to rush your exploration. Great place to also get close interaction with the knowledgable volunteers, and get good photos!

This has a lot of really cool stuff to look at. I would have enjoyed poking around for longer. As it was, we arrived around 3:30. The woman took our money and gave us our tickets, and only THEN did she tell us that everything...More

A great piece of railroad history, not a museum but a working railroad facility. Riding the steam train was fun and informative. Touring the property was great but being the engineer for the day was the best! Super nice folks doing a great job of...More

If you are a railroad/train fan, this is a pretty good place to spend some time. Even if you're not a fan but have a slight interest in history you can easily spend an hour wandering the grounds. There is a gentleman who works upstairs...More

After the long ascending drive from Fallon, we checked in to the Prospector Hotel. Had a lunch and went to the Depot to get our "tickets." We were told to come back at 6:30 p.m. to be ready for boarding at 7:00 p.m. We were...More

Anne, thank you for your comments. You rode the Star Train and of course to see the stars it needs to be dark. The cars you rode on were built in 1928 and always have some issues that we are continuously addressing. The reason for...More

We drove up from southern Nevada to visit Ely, NV because of the train museum and it was worth the trip. You don't have to love trains to enjoy the museum but if you do, it's a great experience. We met people from all over...More

I don't know the name of the train runs. However, in the past, they've gone through the tunnel on the way to Ruth to their turning wye called Keystone.

There is no transportation from Las Vegas to Ely. You could rent a car and drive to Ely. We're 240 miles north of Las Vegas. The drive takes about 3.5 to 4 hours.
