On our recent summer vacation we ventured up to Virginia City NV. Te Virginia & Truckee Railroad is great for young and old. The conductor/historian was very informative about the workings and history of silver mining in the area.

We try and ride the train from Carson City to Virginia City every year .... you see lots of wild horses out and old mines along the way. You have plenty of time to see the sites before heading back to Carson city NV ....

If you do anything in Virginia City you must do this Railroad excursion. You have a narrator who tells you the local history and you got to see Wild Mustang horses. Do not leave Virginia City until you go on this Railroad.

Nor sure about riding in the cab, though it sounds like it is a possibility. The longest option is the ride from Carson City (Eastgate) roundtrip to Virginia city. The ride is approximately 1.5 hours each way with a three... More

I have never been offered any assistance to get on or off the train in my wheelchair. So, I do not believe that it is currently handicap accessible. I am guessing that the stairs are 3-4 feet high, as it is a bit of a... More
