These trains run about once ever hour and go from Virginia City to Gold Hill and back. It's a short leisurely ride but the the conductor narrates Virginia City and railroad history the whole way. Most days the 2 passenger cars are pulled by an old restored steam engine but occasionally a old restored diesel engine fills in. There are... More

We left Carson city at 10 and returned around 4:30. This was the last trip of the year and unfortunately a rainy day, but we still had a good day. I was afraid there might not be enough to do in Virginia city for the couple of hours we had there. But, even with the rain there was plenty to... More

This 2-car plus steam engine train has been lovingly maintained by local volunteers. The excursion takes you a couple of miles down the track, through a short tunnel. My husband got to ride with the engineer and loved every minute. Enroute, a group of 7 wild horse dashed across the track ahead of us. Quite a sight.

This 30 minute train ride through the old mining camps was incredibly interesting. We even saw wild mustangs in the hills along the way.

It was a nice little train ride around Virginia city . The driver was a great tour guide. It gives you a different visual perspective than you can get from walking or driving through and around the town.

The train ride tour offered good info, wonderful sites along the way from Carson city to Virginia city. It was a nice ride, but plan on a little over an hour. Kids would love it, but for a group of couples it was a little slower paced.

We loved the 35 min. ride to Gold Hill. We stayed on the train and went back right away. Beautiful view on the ride and the guide told us some facts along the ride.

The wife and I decided to take this train ride. We have always heard the train horn and seen it but never actually tried it. Finally after a few years of coming here we decided to take a spin on the train tracks and it was worth. We spend about 20 to 25 minutes going down to the little town... More

The train went from Virginia city to Gold Hill and back. It was very interesting and informative, The guide did a good job explaining the history of the gold mines and sites along the way. Well worth the $ 10.00 fare.

The standard tour is about 35 minutes to Gold Hill (south of the city) and back- the conductor gives interesting commentary both ways. The scenery is breathtaking and you get to ride in 100+ years old rail cars. The price is excellent- $10 per person (at least for adults). Nothing bad to say about this!
