St Mary's church is very interesting - be sure to ask questions of docents in the back of the church and in the Mad Monk's Museum in the basement. They are a wealth of fascinating history of the area.

We were driving I-80, Winnemucca to Lake Tahoe, when we came upon a signpost to Virginia City, thinking this could be THE Virginia city from the old west, we took the detour, and after passing through Silver City, we entered the wild west town of Virginia City. Being Sunday, it was busy with little or no parking in the main... More

Historic mining town church that is a must see no matter what faith you are. Be sure to see the museum downstairs and the gift shop.

We visited the Catholic church while checking out Virginia City. It is a beautiful church with lovely stained glass windows. The receptionist was very friendly. Was fun to see.

Lots of history in this church and in the museum downstairs. Also has a simple little gift shop. It has had some renovation and hopefully more is expected to happen in the future. It would be nice to see new cushions and renovations to the pews.

I love going through old churches where ever I travel. They typically tell a side of the towns history that you would not pick up on touring through the rest of a town. St. Mary's is one of those churches.

This church is like stepping back in time! I could have looked at the stain glass windows for hours. The guest service was very informative and friendly.

We did not have much daylight left so we just did a quick peek inside. Very beautiful older Catholic church. Would have liked to spent more time there but maybe on the next adventure. Also a very old church just down the road we did not have time to explore. I was interested to see Virginia City because of the... More

I was looking forward to this adventure, but the history of this church truly suprised me. I am not sure what I was anticipating, but the vast beauty of the location, so high in the mountains, coupled with the history itself left me speechless! There was a totally relaxed feel to the place. Inner Peace if you will once you... More

This Church sits on a plain that has a beautiful backdrop. It truly is a "Church in the Mountians" feel. This mountain church is perfect for the city it is attached to.
