I like this highway so much I did it twice. Visit during the fall foliage and you will be amazed at the gorgeous views and colors. It will take about 30 minutes from one end to the other. Start off either in Lincoln or Conway...More

Nothing more beautiful in October with the changing colors. A photographic paradise. There are places to stop and take pictures along the way.

I love driving this highway when I’m in the area. It made a disappointing Ice Castles experience (nearby) worthwhile. The roads are well-plowed during the winter, but don’t expect very many viewpoints or vistas to be accessible. Only a few have the entry and a...More

We used this highway to see the ice castles, it was a scary ride at night, with snowy conditions, hair pin turns, snow at least 6 feet on both sides of road. The road was well salted, we were safe.

Drove down this magnificent road last weekend. We’ve gone thru it many times during the summer but this was our first time during the winter months. The views are magnificent. The only negative was that the parking areas are not all plowed so depending on...More

We took rhe Kancamagus from North Conway to rte 93. The frost heves were tough and really couldn't see anything because the snow was so high and the lookouts were all ice. We would do this ride again in the nice weather to enjoy the...More

I did this drive this winter, only about three or four lookouts are plowed out but they give stunning views. Highly recommend. I’ll definitely be going back when the snow melts to take advantage of the hiking trails and more lookout places.

Plenty of pullovers along the way. There is a lot of snow in the mountains this year so I would expect that there will still be some along the Kanc. at that time. And yes Bear Notch Rd. is closed in the winter. I highly... More

Hey everyone. I appreciate all the advice that you have given me so far. Here is what I am thinking of doing now. Day 1: Land in Boston at 10am. Stay at Provincetown Inn to explore Cape Cod. Day 2: Whale watching tour at 9am. Cant check into room until 4pm. So we will explore part of Ct. maybe Barn Island for the afternoon. Stay at Atlantic Beach Hotel Middleton, RI. Day 3: drive to Lincoln, NH and stay there. (Would love to jot over to VT closest town near Lincoln just to say I've been there!) Day 4: Drive Kancamagus highwaythrough Conway exploring along the way to Portland, Mn. Stay the night there. Can't check in until 4pm anyways. Check out at 10am and drive along the coast back to Boston. Arriving back at the airport at 5pm. What do yall think? Atleast we won't be backtracking that way. If you have another suggestion on a southern town in Maine by the water to stay at, I would appreciate that also. I know a lot of people say going to Provincetown is a waste of time but I really really really want to stay on the very tip of Cape Cod. It's one of the highlights of my trip. Thanks again for all the suggestions. One more thing, is there cell phone service along the Kancamagus highway or should I print a map?
