Nice selections curated by a book lover, this store is worth finding. My favorite The section on local history was extensive. Sheafe Street is only a block long, and didn't even appear on the map I had. Parking can be an adventure. Petunia, the shop cat, was pleased with the homegrown catnip I brought. Gotta love a store that comes... More

Cozy and crammed with books, this rambling collection of fact and fiction is compact, but broadly and smartly sampled. Stewarded by a well-rounded, friendly lit-lover and a fluffy feline (and some canaries), the shelves are whimsically classified and relaxed to reward the casual browser. Situated in a 200-year-old home in Portsmouth's fantastical historic district, there's a single sagging armchair piled... More

My boyfriend and I love this little bookstore. It's a small shop with bookshelves to the ceiling, and the finds range from popular best-sellers to lesser known titles. It's definitely worth a visit while in Portsmouth, and the shop is just a short walk from the town center.

The shop is on a side street so parking can be difficult. The selection is really good. Shelves are a bit disorganized but appropriately sectioned off.

If you are in the area and are looking for a great selection of books from today or from the days of yore you will not be disappointed! If you are looking for something specific like I was (old, antique books) look to the top shelves! I found a wonderful variety of antique books! And also the owner is very... More

Book lovers bookstore run by a knowledgable and helpful gentlemen, this shop nevers fails to charm the kids, teens and adults in our group. Best shopping of the trip as the kid who doesn't read much finds a few books that he really wants, and the book fiend in the family finds a tome or two she was looking for!... More

We happened upon this shop and were reluctant to leave! Lots of books: old, new, eclectic. Jazz music playing softly in the background, nice chat with Ken, the owner, and comfy chairs to curl up in with a good book. Don't forget to say hi to Petunia, the sweetest bookstore cat ever!

Ken and his furry companion, Petunia, have created a delightful, warm, cozy, and relaxed bookstore. A place that has something for everyone and is hidden from the main drag. It is truly one of Portsmouth's best kept secrets. t's not very big, I've walked past it not knowing it was there, right around the corner from Ceres Bakery. It's got... More

Sheafe Street Books makes for a great after-lunch stop, or pre-lunch, or no-lunch stop while strolling the scenic streets off Market Square. There's not a lot of square footage, but whatever space is available has been organized by owner Ken Kozick to provide maximum exposure to interesting titles at reasonable prices. The store features books on and by the Beats.... More
