I was finally able to visit The New Jersey Museum of Boating on one of its days open. The museum is a small maritime museum that has displays on boating, fishing, yachting and the history of this industry in New Jersey. It is a perfect museum for kids and for people who are interesting in New Jersey's nautical past.
It has some interesting exhibitions on WWII and the 1916 Shark Attacks as well as sailing vessels used in races. When I visited, there was a complete exhibition on boat motors. There is a little something for everyone here. What is nice is that it shares the same building with the Vintage Car Museum so you can visit two museums on one afternoon. It is a nice place to take kids when the weather is rainy.
