This might be a little upsetting but everyone should visit. The level of poverty that these people live in is unbelievable. But everyone here has hope and aspirations of getting a house and work. Truly amazing people. The schools are really great to visit.

We visited townships first during our prior visit to South Africa. They did not change much within 10 years but one can see some progress now. A lot of simple affordable housing begins to develop on outskirts. There is a stadium for Imizamo Yethu children to play sports like soccer and rugby. Many inhabitants are from other African countries and... More

I did this tour as part of the Hop On Hop Off bus. I was met at the bus stop by the guide, Africa, who lives in there. The leaflet says it lasts for 30 minutes, but we were still going 90 minutes later! Africa is passionate about the settlement and the people living there, many of whom are from... More

The tour gives you an insight into life in an informal settlement. Our local guide a resident of the community was extremely knowledgeable and articulate. You walk through the streets and houses of the settlement, visiting the local school and community Centre. Closed shoes are a good idea as the streets are muddy with large puddles. You walk away with... More

Cape Town is full of beautiful landscapes and breathtaking scenery, but no trip would be complete without a journey into one of the townships. Our guide was particularly wonderful and it was clear that he was proud of where he came from and shared so many rich experiences with us. We even got to enter one of the schools and... More

We were on a tour bus that stopped at this settlement, my family and one other got off. Our tour guide said not many people get off at that stop. It is too easy to go to South Africa, and go to table mountain, camps bay, the rich houses.. The nice restaurants, and to ignore the poverty that is going... More

Took the option of visiting Imizamo Yethu settlement from the open top city tour bus. So well organised you are met at the bus stop by a local guide who lives in Imizamo Yethu you walk through the settlement asking questions and been informed how the settlement goes about its day to day life. At all times you feel safe... More

A look into the real everyday life of some local residents, these people do not have the opportunity to see the outside world like us travelers. Whatever it is, they make do with whatever they have & are happy in their own environment. It's an 'eye opener' for some of us!

What an amazing experience! Our guide (Africa) was extremely knowledgable about the area, he knew everyone 1 and gave us a very in-depth tour........this settlement is on the red bus tour company route and well worth a visit.
