Todd & Patricia Brown are owners of the Casa Grande Trading Post, Mining Museum and Petting Zoo. They live in a 19-room adobe hacienda that they built themselves. They make jewelry from rare Cerrillos Turquoise and Variscite from their two mining claims. The turquoise is brilliant green, while Cerrillos Variscite is white. They cut and polish the stones and set them in silver. Todd uses techniques developed when he first came to Cerrillos in 1970. Their son Andy follows his dad's footsteps, working with him at the mines. He is also as an artisan who does custom jewelry & repairs. Visit the Mining Museum, admission $2. A sprawling display on local history, prehistoric mining and territorial mines of the 1880's. Items include antique bottles, mine photos, tools, minerals and the unique finds of an 1880's Cerrillos outhouse dig. The Petting Zoo is a barn yard of several friendly goats, llama, chickens and pigeons. Animal food is for sale in the gift shop. Children enjoy the live entertainment and a stop will add to your adventures on The Turquoise Trail.

The Turquoise Trail (NM Rte. 14) is a scenic byway dotted by villages of a truly bygone era when mining ruled the area. Today the lovely vistas remain and old-timey homes and buildings along the way have been converted to trendy shops and dining establishments....More

After a mostly dissapointing Turquoise Trail Drive this we a true find. Cerrillos at one time was the center of much turquoise mining. The town still has mostly dirt streets and looks like right out of the old west. You have to pull off of...More

So, there's not much in Cerrillos. Down one of the roads is the Casa Grande Trading Post. The outside is strewn with all sorts of old equipment. Mostly just stuff. Going inside, there are selves, trays, tables everywhere filled with more stuff - lots of...More

Stopped by here as we were sight seeing in the area. It is a neat little place with some pretty rocks, bottles, and jewelry. I was walking around deciding what I wanted to purchase and I took a picture. This extremely rude man working there...More

OK I get it you are in the middle of nowhere and actually see something advertised to do. Then this thing turns into a run down building with overpriced items and we are suppose to be impressed. Yes I am being very critical here but...More

If you're driving the Turquoise Trail from Albuquerque to Sante Fe, this is worth a stop, as it provides a sense of the mining culture. The "Trading Post" part is free -- it's a store that sells things like turquoise, rocks, and jewelry, but you...More

At the end of a long dirt road sits this "trading post and petting zoo". I didn't see much of a trading post, most of the items were over-priced and dusty. The petting zoo consisted of 4 chickens, 2 goats and a llama that wouldn't...More
