I traveled to Chama specifically to ride the Cumbres & Toltec. It's an adventure into the history of railroads, and the geology and scenery of New Mexico. Seats are reserved, but everyone moves around. Docents move along the cars with historical information about the history...More

This is truly a "going back in time" experience. The scenery could not be seen any other way, but on this narrow gauge steam train. Riding in the parlor car is delightful with great service and a car attendant that knows all of the history...More

The railroad season begins in May and bookings continue into late October.  Your journey will begin in either Chama, NM, or Antonito, CO.  Tickets may be purchased at their website.  We chose to ride coach and were able to walk between the cars.  We bought...More

Time travelers and train buffs will love the experience of riding America's highest elevation, best preserved steam train. Departing from Chama and winding up to Cumbres pass in a series of ever-more scenic twists and turns overlooking the Wolf creek valley, the ride gives everyone...More

Good steam train atmosphere. Lots of smoke and chugging. Take tourist car and have advantage of table and chairs along with access to open car. Crew could be more knowledgeable on geology and Flora but we're good on history. Suggest durango-silverton as comparable quality but...More

We did the Chama to Antonito train ride with the bus back. Driving up from Santa Fe is a beautiful drive and we got to see the scenery with morning and evening sunshine which was a treat. The train itself is a refurbished narrow gauge...More

We boarded in Chama and got off for lunch mid-way finishing up in Antonito. It was the most scenic ride we've ever taken and our photos do it no justice. The memories will have to do. Definitely do this if you have the chance in...More

We drove from a timeshare in Pagosa Springs to ride this narrow gage steam train. We decided to step up to the parlor car since we may never take the trip again and were so happy we spent the extra for this option. First class...More

My wife suggested the railroad trip for out anniversary and it was worth the price. Two hours out in the parlor car, lunch, and a couple of drinks on the way back. The scenery was worth the price.

October is an awesome time to do this due to the fall colors, & the guaranteed mountain crisp air. Not sure of the access for u, but probably the website or calling can answer that.

We only did the first part - to lunch - and then took another train back to Chama because we didn't want to be in a motorcoach for the return so I can't really answer that. From what the train staff said, the second part... More
