On our way back to Las Cruces from the White Sands National Monument, we saw the sign on Hwy 70 for the Museum at White Sands Missile Site. We took the exit and drove into the base. There is a reception building on the right near the gate, but it was closed. We drove up to the gate and a... More

When my husband said let's drive to go see the missile range (he's a vet) I rolled my eyes into the back of my head and was figuring out how to avoid it. We stopped at a little shop on the way where the woman convinced us we had to go... I was super mad at the time until we... More

The museum contains very interesting historical information and photographs of the history of White Sands Missile Range. Security is very tight at this U.S. Army installation, and admittance requires your positive indentification.

Once you register to enter the base, you can park next to the museum building and the missile park. We had the location to ourselves for most of our visit. The indoor exhibits were interesting, varied and thought provoking. The outside exhibits were likewise. For those of us whose military history is lacking, the dates the missile systems were in... Very cool Museum if you are interested in the history of missile technology. The Museum itself has something for everyone. I liked the navy exhibits because I work for the navy and there is a great exhibit about the original ranch that was taken over by the government for the manhattan project...great model and architectural drawings...that is something I like.... We visited the White Sands Missile Park. You must park and get your own badge to enter which requires a back ground check. We then walked about 200 yards through the security gate to the Missile Park. The park ever missile used from the V2 German missile to the most modern. All with plaques describing what your were looking at.

Super cool informational visit. This is a local site for me and I have taken it for granted, which is unfortunate. It really is a great. Interesting and fun. If you are just going to the museum you can enjoy the comforts of nice air conditioned indoors and you will be glad you stopped. The museum is well put together,... More

As non-military, we were subject to a background check just to see the museum and the missile park but it was worth it. Lots of examples and history of rockets tested/developed there and used by military and civilians. Also, history of battles with the Apache and testing of nuclear weapons. A great place to visit and worth the hassle of... More
