- RhroncichBrookfield, Illinois565 contributionsNice plaza for a visitThis was a stop on our Tauck tour of New Mexico. Nice plaza featuring everything from fancy to casual food. Some stores are 5 and dime style with fake Southwest products made in China or India, but others feature actual handmade by native American Indians jewelry, pottery, beadwork, etc. Know your products.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 October 2023

However keep wandering in larger circles around for cafe's, bookshops, and galleries. Pay meters on the square. Parking within walking distance.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 26 April 2024

I expected so much after reading reviews. Took us about 1/2hr to walk the square and saw enough. Overpriced and I can’t tell you how many tags I saw made in India, China or another country😳 I can get those items on Amazon and much cheaper.

Run down dreadful plaza area, some parking meters around the square do not work and traffic horrendous due to road work.
Shops sell the same overpriced items, nothing unique and lots of homeless people harassing for money. Taos Pueblo closed. Not worth visiting here at all

We stopped in Taos on our way to Santa Fe since we had never been there before. We found the plaza and parked. There are parking meters that are enforced! The meters are old and only take coins. I believe it was a quarter for 30 mins but not positive. The meters are hard to read so we just put in four quarters and it gave us enough time to check out the shops. Most of the merchandise was made in Mexico so we weren’t too interested. We did find a few native items to remember our visit to Taos. Most shops were open and masks are required to go into all places. There were a few shops that were closed because there were not enough workers. That’s typical nowadays wherever you travel. Just make sure you fill the meter and don’t park in a no parking spot. You will get a ticket. We saw many cars with parking tickets on their windshields. Overall it was a beautiful day and fun walking around.

Taos plaza is a great place to begin your immersion I to the artistic culture that is uniquely taos. The plaza houses artists whose work is amazing, your usual trading posts for your curiosities, and places to eat and imbibe. Branching out on foot from the plaza is in order and the plaza is a great launching spot.

If you go to Taos, you need to check the plaza out but don’t have high expectations. The shops are nothing special, but I think it’s more about seeing the architecture. Inside the square they have parking meters, which is convenient but they don’t accept credit cards or paying via an app, which is very inconvenient.

It's a shame that Taos has such poor leadership this Plaza is not worth visiting. Doc Martin's is a good restaurant and the Nambe outlet offers lovely household wares. The rest is just souvenir shops. The sidewalks and streets are dirty, reflecting a surprising lack of community pride.

Very disappointed in the condition of the sidewalks and curb cuts around the plaza area. As a person who uses a wheelchair, this made it downright painful to explore the area. Also, the public restrooms in the alley by the Cantina are deplorable. The door to the mens' room requires the strength of the Hulk to open and the accessible toilet is blocked by a hugh trash bin. Taos hates the disabled. Change my mind.

This is the historic centre of Taos and quite confusing when you first arrive. Many cars are trying to park around the plaza itself - there is a car park just nearby but it is not very well signposted. We managed to get a space and then you put coins in a metre. The whole area would be better protected by being car free and having a large clearly marked car park nearby. The plaza is a bit tacky with tourist shops but there are a few nice shops too.

Taos Plaza is quite cute with its beautiful adobe buildings. There are plenty of shops selling souvenirs, clothes, and mountain gear around the plaza so you’ll find a little something to take home for sure. The drive to Santa Fe is really worth doing, one of the options is taking a scenic route. I was told one can visit the native Indians village but sadly didn’t have enough time to do it. Next time, for sure.
