Mount Beacon Park, located in the City of Beacon and Town of Fishkill, was...

Mount Beacon Park, located in the City of Beacon and Town of Fishkill, was created by Scenic Hudson. Its 234 acres were protected in 1995 and 1998, halting a proposed residential subdivision and preserving important remnants of the Mount Beacon Incline Railway. A kiosk at the park entry explains the mountain’s history, ecology and conservation. Scenic Hudson has worked tirelessly to protect the incline railway and its environs, which it owns. Thanks to their efforts, trails to the summit have been maintained and the surrounding natural beauty preserved; one trail leads up a stairway tracing a portion of the railway’s route. The Incline Society and Scenic Hudson share a goal of making this wonderful natural and historic area accessible to more people than ever before while continuing to preserve the mountain’s scenic beauty and critical wildlife habitat for future generations.

The climb up the red trial is nothing but rocks. Rocks and more rocks. I was expecting more of a nature trail. It's all about the top, which has the remains of the incline railway and a very nice view. I thought the trip down would be easy, but it was stressful and unpleasant because I had to watch every... Tough hike up to top of old incline railroad and then you can continue another 30-40 minutes up t firetower. 360 degree view of gorgeous mountains and Hudson River. dParking lot is right at trail head . Climb is steep on loose rock and over boulders. It is quite slippery and care must be taken. Many leaves were already down... More

The ruin's of the Railway are there but not the rail. The hike is a challenge but the view is more than worth the effort. Part of the hike has a stairway to make it a little easier. Just take your time and enjoy the experience. At the top you'll have areas to sit and chill as you take in... More

The hike up is a bit strenuous! I thought I was in pretty good shape but was quite the workout for me! Once you get to the top the views are spectacular! We did not go to the tower (another 45 minute hike upward) due to time restraints but I'm told on a clear day you can see NYC from... More

Now that the weather is starting to cool down, It's time to get hiking again. We started up Mount Beacon not really knowing what to expect. The initial trail is very easy like a rail trail. There is a little bit of history on display to start things off right. Then come the stairs and the hill. It's a good... More

You can walk to the summit at your own leisurely pace which we did, and it took a little less than an hour. It was a bright autumn day, lots of blue sky and magnificent foliage. If you have any doubts prior to the ascent, they will be erased when you reach the top

This is a strenuous hike. You go up very fast on a rocky path so make sure you are wearing the correct shoes and bring water. The view at the Railway ruins is stunning. You get to take in all of Beacon and a huge amount of the hudson valley. The scenery will take your breath away truly. Bring a... More

Hiked up the mountain with my wife on a beautiful day. The view was amazing! Make sure to bring water and some good shoes because the trail gets rocky....but it's worth it!

I've climbed this several times and the view from the top is just awesome, too see some of the ruins left behind and knowing they want to restore the Incline Railroad is worth every step up this mountain. It's a straight up climb, make sure you have hiking boots or sneaker with threads. If you have a walking stick or... More
