Enchanting site !
Sep 2020
L'abbaye de Saint-Benoit-du-Lac, which dates back to 1912, was established by Benedictine monks who still live and work there today. Their specialty is the production of various cheeses and their apple orchard. Since we were there during the Fall foliage, the place was absolutely beautiful. You can also visit the main corridor of the Abbaye, the chapel between 1 and 4 p.m. and the gift shop from 9 to 4. Worth the short drive (10-15 minutes) from Magog.

Amazing Experience
Feb 2020
This was a stop on a Louise Penny map as the site of "The Beautiful Mystery." Mrs. M loves all Louise's books and we decided to check it out. We weren't disappointed as we got to watch a Mass which included the monks' Gregorian chants. As a devout pagan baby, I was mesmerized. Mrs. M, who grew up Catholic, was interested, but not as spellbound. I sure hope they can find some young brothers to keep this place going. Not for me, but maybe others. Oh, and the cheese store was terrific.

Stayed at a BandB nearby and stopped in for some of the infamous cheese. Lovely people and charming facility.

Ideal place for reflection
Oct 2019
If you need some place to gather your thoughts/reflection or some time for yourself, the abbey is the place to go.

This can also be a group activity such as apple picking and shopping in the gift shop. There are spots for a little picnic during summer time.

Don’t miss this!
Oct 2019 • Friends
We went at 3 pm on a Sunday afternoon in late October. It felt like discovering a castle in the countryside of Europe somewhere. We had a 5 year old with us so couldn’t stay long enough to hear the chants. We were worried it wouldn’t be open during the week this time of year. We also enjoyed the gift-shop.

Beautiful exterior but underwhelming interior
Sep 2019
The exterior of the abbey is quite majestic looking. However the church inside is austere and simplistic. Even the long hallway connecting the reception area to the church is more interesting. There are several buildings in the compound but most of them are off limits to tourists. Chapelle Saint-Benoit is accessible and it is quite photogenic. We visited in late September. Some of the trees had already turned color and it was beautiful. Without the fall color it seems a long way to drive from Montreal just to see the abbey unless you are also visiting some other locations nearby.

Beautiful exterior; understated chapel
Aug 2019 • Family
Our family of six enjoyed our visit to the Abbaye. The exterior is stunning and worth a quick visit all by itself. The tiled hallway is also very eye catching. The chapel inside was surprisingly understated. I had expected something else based on the exterior, but I also loved it. It clearly offers a place for heartfelt worship and quiet contemplation. We also enjoyed some goodies from the awesome gift shop.

Beautiful setting - amazing gift shop (cheese)
Sep 2019
Beautiful Benedictine Abbey set on a hill overlooking the lake. The self guided tour is informative and easy to use. The gift shop is almost the main attraction due to the reputation of the cheese made at the abbey ( and cider and apple butter) My only recomendation is that they should create some sort of path or lookout so visitors could a better sense of the beautiful grounds and setting.

An Integral Part of Any Visit to this Area
Aug 2019
This was my second trip to the abbey and I can't recommend it enough. It is truly a place of inspiration. Although I am not Catholic, I would not go without attending Mass. It is beautiful, serene and enchanting. We came from Magog and the drive itself is worth the trip. The boutique carries only the best in cheese, wine, chocolate, etc. from this and other monasteries, etc.and is not to be missed. The entire experience is one you have to recommend to anyone travelling in this area.
