Classic old estate

Love old estates and this one did not disappoint! Learning about the history of an area by seeing how the gentry lived is a great learning experience.

There was not a lot in bloom. The mansion was fabulous and there were docents everywhere to talk to tourists. Nicely put together. Everyone was helpful and welcoming.

We have gone several times, nice park-like atmosphere recommend coming on a cool day. We enjoyed the various gardens and sticking to the shade of the trees.

We visit Sonnenberg every few years and every time we visit more restoration is done. We visited in Oct 2016 on a beautiful fall day. Walking the grounds is very relaxing. Some of the roses were still in bloom, even though many of the gardens were done blooming for the season. Visiting in the fall was very relaxing due to... More

Wonderful outside and inside tour, unbelievable that someone had that much money and now it takes 300 volunteers to keep it up. I would love to putz in the garden. Inside of the mansion is huge with Tiffany lighting, a very small elevator to take to the second floor and most modern conviences for the age of the house. Lots... More

A little cloudy, but beautiful grounds and mansion. Lots still to be done in the restoration, but very nice nonetheless.

We walked to the Sonnenberg Estate from our B&B and had an interesting visit. Unlike another reviewer, I was happy to pay the $12 for admission as I felt that it would help preserve this lovely property. Since we visited in the fall, the gardens were not at their peak and we spent most of our time in the house.... More

We were really disappointed in our trip to Sonnenberg, having been here before, albeit many years ago, the place has fallen into a lot of disrepair, not worth the $12 admission fee,

This estate is a must if you are in the area. Very historic home of the Thompsons who lived there in the late 1800's and early 1900's. A lot of restoration of the building and grounds has been done and more is planned. Grounds and gardens are beautiful to walk in.
