I have always enjoyed visits to the Historical Society just to gaze upon the items that normally are stashed away in the vault. When a new exhibition is announced, I'm there to see what goodies are on display. I love history in general, but seeing...More

We stopped in to get directions to Mark Twain ' s study. See the museum. Learn their history. Take the one hour trolley tour that begins at the top of each hour! Elmira has a lot to offer the visitor beyond Twain! On the trolley,...More

Friendly staff with eclectic collection of Elmira & Mark Twain historical displays. Very nice section on Jewish immigrants contribution to Elmira's history and the Gilded Age in the region. $5 regular price, $3 for seniors.

The Chemung Valley History Museum is the jumping off point for the Trolley tour into Mark Twain Country. The museum itself is quite unpretentious, but offers some insights into the life of Mark Twain at his summer residence where he did much of his writing.
