You probably won't be bothered by the crowds at the museum, but the details make it an interesting experience. Knowing some of the local history might be of benefit to fully appreciate some of the items. Located in an old bank building, some of the...More

With limited time in Elmira and a huge interest in Mark Twain, we took the Trolley Tour of Elmira which starts at the Chemung Valley History Museum. The museum is small, but inexpensive. The Trolley tour was only$4 each! The host of the Trolley Tour...More

The Chemung Valley History Museum is the jumping off point for the Trolley tour into Mark Twain Country. The museum itself is quite unpretentious, but offers some insights into the life of Mark Twain at his summer residence where he did much of his writing.

We took part in the wonderful Twain Trolley tour then checked out the museum. Very well put together. We learned a lot! It is a small kid friendly and interactive museum. If you are in the area...check it out and do the Twain Trolley Tour!

Wonderful place to learn about a place that I moved to. The "docents" were very informative and shared some personal stories.

This is a small, volunteer-run museum located near the center of downtown Elmira. The front of the building is an ex-bank, and the structure has several historically significant features. The museum itself is relatively small, but has a surprisingly good collection of local artifacts, which...More
