It's a nice, park-like setting, but the historical areas are fenced off and we couldn't find a way to see either the Confederate or Union gravesites. This was a real disappointment for the Civil War buff in our group.

This cemetery is a gem, great walking, and so many sights to see. It is well maintained, and quiet. You can stop and visit Mark Twain's grave site, or any of a number well known people from the surrounding area. The cemetery is broken into...More

We were searching for my great grandparents grave in this small, quaint cemetery. Thank goodness my husband saw a tree behind my great grandparents graves on the internet. There is no office there. The graves are mostly from the 1800's or early 1900's. Therefore, other...More

So many interesting people here, accentuated by the burial site of the Confederate POWs from the Elmira camp. Quiet and peaceful for a walk.

I went to the cemetery to visit Mark Twain's grave site. This cemetery is huge. My gps took me to the cemetery. There are signs pointing to his grave site. Got lost in cemetery trying to find my way out. Not all entrances are open.

I grew up learning about Mark Twain and always was curious about him. I read Huckleberry Finn at around age 13. I visited his home in Hartford CT. two times-it was magnificent. The cemetery where he is buried is huge. His grave is surrounded by...More

You'll see surprise on people's faces when you tell them that Mark Twain is buried in Elmira. Most assume he must be buried in Hartford, CT or Mississippi. The cemetary also boasts the gravesite for the famous producer of the Our Gang and the Laurel...More
