Saw this in a tour book and was worth visiting. A well kept cemetery and was so amazing to see all the stones perfectly lined up. Also, visited the graves of Mark Twain and family.

We as a family did the laying of the wreath's on the soldiers grave at Christmas. The cemetery is always well kept and the graves looked beautiful when we were done.

This cemetery is adjacent to the cemetery in which Mark Twain is interred. It is quite awesome to see how straight the lines of stones are here. It is similar to Arlington National Cemetery on a much smaller scale.

One of the smallest and earliest National Cemeteries, it is home to the remains of about 3,000 Confederate Soldiers who died in the Elmira Prison Camp, notoriously referred to as "Hellmira", among others. The Confederate Soldiers were buried, with all dignity, by a former slave....More

There are sites from the Civil war here. It is neat how they have the cemetery laid out. They have soldiers gravestones facing in towards other soldiers gravestones protecting them.

On Memorial day it is beautiful to see all the flags on the graves. We were there before and after the holiday weekend. It's too bad the flags can't remain up longer but for mowing and trimming reasons it's not possible.

Some of the earliest graves in this upstate New York National Cemetary are Confederate soldiers who died in the infamous Elmira Prison Camp. The precise positioning of the headstones reflects the respect and care for the veterans buried here. Although this is probably one of...More
