The Arnot Art Museum is a landmark jewel of the art world in downtown Elmira, New York. Housed in the 1833 neo-classical Arnot family mansion, it is one of the last remaining private art collections formed in the 19th century still exhibited in its original showcase. Temporary exhibitions highlight various aspects of the collections and include works from museums around the world.

The primary attraction for us to visit the Arnot Museum was the 75th annual regional art exhibit in which artists exclusively from western New York had their judged works on display. As inveterate museum goers, we were quite impressed with the quality and variety of the works of art, justifying their claim as a premier museum among the smaller ones.

Although not a huge museum, the Arnot has a lovely collection of art. We were greeted warmly at the reception desk and the young lady even spent a few minutes with us, telling us about various pieces in the museum.

One of the great small museums in upstate New York. Arnot often offers great temporary exhibitions but the anchor is the superb permanent collection -- specializes in American Art masters but there's an impressive European selection as well. Not many places this size where you can see a Brueghel, Courbet, Bougereau, Millet. A truly important contribution to arts culture.

The Arnot Art Museum opened in 1913 and has a fine collection of 17th-, 18th-, and 19th-century European paintings as well as more modern pieces - they have many changing exhibitions so return trips are definitely called for. Admission is reasonable - $7.00 for adults, $5.00 for seniors. The collection is always interesting and the staff is readily available and... More

Excellent permanent collection of American and European fine art that spans generations. Housed in an absolutely gorgeous 1833 neo-classical mansion!! Well worth the $7.00 adult admission (5.00 for students and children) just to see the spectacular architecture of the building... and oh yeah.. they have some really cool art work as well.

The Arnot Art Museum is a remarkable museum based on the original Matthias Arnot Collection. Visit the main gallery, hung in the original salon style to see how this collection was curated/built within the context of how it was meant to be shown. The American collection features artists from the Hudson River School such as Thomas Cole and Albert Bierstadt,... More

I went here for a fundraiser with my mother once and enjoyed it very much. The artwork held my attention, which is hard at times, and the set up was well thought out. I recommend visiting.
