What a fantastic way to see the country! Traveling by boat across NY state. You see things you would never see from a car. Rent a canal boat. It comes with bikes to ride on the tow-path.

Over 400 miles of trail along the scenic Erie Canal allows you to see towns, villages and farms. Stop by the shops and restaurants and explore. Some of the path is paved, some is cinder, some is lit. Fishing, parks and an active boating venue gives something for everyone.

There are very nice parks along the canal in the Rochester area and probably throughout the state. I thoroughly enjoy kayaking various segments of the canal especially in Fairport NY area.

Whether you are running, hiking, blading or biking, the Erie Canal is the perfect spot to do it! The scenery is beautiful with sparkling waters dotted with weeping willows and woodlands that afford views to all kinds of ducks and wildlife. It really is a spectacular scene that will make you come back for more time and time again.

Had read and viewed documentaries of this masterpiece of civil engineering. Interesting to see how it has become a part of the landscape. Without signs it could be mistaken for a natural river. The thing that made NYC so important.

The Erie Canal in Fairport is a wonderful place to stroll around and see the sights. There are a lot of good restaurants in the area, and it's also fun to just walk around and look at all the old sights. Very historic as well! Try stopping by sometime for the Fairport Canal Days Festival, too!

Run,walk, dog walk, bike, row, kayak, from several ports, town to town. My two favorite are Pittsford and Fairport, each offering nearby eateries, or ice cream, a place to feed the ducks, or listen to music. Every season has something to offer and it's safe and friendly. You can even rent a pack boat to motor along for a week of history and relaxation checking out... More
