An absolute must for researchers and historians for pre civil war to World Wars in military research. The arms, pictures, and production figures are enormous. Remington could have supplied (and did) any number of World War One countries.
There are several gifted arms, the Chinese wall rifle is an astounding piece of art and work.
When reading about the Wild West and gunfighters, think about a visit. Unbelievable how many arms were made as is the number of derringers and pistols.
After the museum take a drive up to Ilion gorge and there is a monument to the founder, Eliphalet Remington and his first forge. The Remington homestead has a NY Marker to it on Barringer Road. See if you can find the small Eliphalet Remington park in Ilion.

Our son was visiting from out of state and a visit to the Remington Arms Museum was on his agenda. We checked the hours and days of operation on their website and drove 1.5 hrs to find it closed with a paper sign saying "Reopening 2/26", which was the next day. On 2/26, I called after lunch to confirm that the museum did in fact reopen and was told it was open. We made the drive again to find it all locked up with a new sign saying "Monday to Friday 1-4 pm" (it was Wednesday at 3 pm). I again called and the security desk answered, said they would check and left me hanging for 6 minutes. I called back and no answer. Very disappointed in the whole experience.

WE had driven by before and decided to Visit. Very nice museum with many interesting guns. The gift shop had many items to choose from. We would have loved to have seen the actual factory floor and the making of the guns.

We were on a two week road trip and our next stop was Springfield Armory, MA. My brother-in-law suggested stopping at this museum, knowing that we were interested in historical arms. I knew in advance that this would be a small museum, however, it does have some really nice arms pieces on display, as with most museums, lots of artifacts are either in storage or on loan with another museum. We spent about 45 minutes looking at the history of Remington Arms. I'm always a sucker for details of our American history.

Interesting but small. It's basically on room and a little store. Still fun and worth the trip since it was free to enter.

I can't resist stopping by the Remington Arms Museum whenever I'm in Ilion. The museum is free and has an awesome collection of firearms, as well as art. Though the old factory tour is no more, the video they have is interesting and well done. The store is must see for your Remington souvenirs. Hats, shirts, signs, and a whole lot more. There are usually bargains to be found.
Plan on spending at least an hour there. They close between noon and one for lunch.
A great stop if you're touring the Mohawk Valley, or if you're traveling and want a break in your trip.

The museum is free. It has a great display of all the Remington guns through the years. Very interesting facts I didn't know about Remington guns. I have always shot Remington and prefer their guns over others. There is a video that shows how the guns are made and a gift shop that you will enjoy. Check it out!

Have been there a couple times. It is always interesting to go thru the building. It also shows some of the other products they have manufactured over the years.

This is a small gun museum. We enjoyed this quick stop and did feel it was worth it. It has a lot of history and detail at the actual Remington factory. No longer are there tours, which is a shame. But still very interesting and free.

You've got to be proud to be an American when you visit this 201 year old facility/factory/museum in Ilion NY. It is HUGE as a factory and the museum is ripe with the significant role that Remington has played and continues to play in the course of our country. It's kind of humbling to see the size and scope of the factory which gratefully is still operational, the museum is interesting-takes maybe half an hour 45 minutes to enjoy and there is a nice little museum gift shop as well.
Glad we didn't miss this!
