The perfect short hike for a view of the high peaks

I would give this one 5 stars if you didn't have to pay to hike. The hike itself is a great introduction for hiking bigger peaks in the Adirondacks. The trail resembles that of a lot of the trails through these northern woods. Some even call Mt. Jo mini Marcy. Its a good workout for any ability. If you are... More

We went as a couple with our new dog and she had a blast. It did take us about the whole day but was totally worth it! We went in April and there were no mosquitoes or bugs it was actually warm.

We enjoyed a fall hike recently to the top of Mount Jo....the hike up took approx. an hour and a half that I would attribute somewhat to the lack of being able to site the proper trail....the trail markings should be better....the hike down was fifty minutes as we could much better see the proper route to take....this hike would... We came in May, and oh my gosh, these huge mosquito must have been starved over the winter. They seemed so hungry for blood they chased us everywhere, so much so that we had to quickly retreat back into our car and left. You need to drive through a segment of winding and bumpy dirty road before you get to... More

We ascended starting at 4:45 and the sunset was at 6:05 this evening of the 18th of October. We made the summit using the "short" trail which means straight up and made the summit by 5:35. The decent took us about 40 minutes and worth every step!! Spectacular views await you at the summit!!

As we were closing out our stay in Lake Placid we had an afternoon left and weren't quite sure what to do. I found a web site that indicated Mount Jo had an "easy" hiking path. I would only consider it easy from a professional hikers point of view. Young kids were able to get to the top in 30... More

Mt. Jo is a great little hike with absolutely stunning views. The trail is very well maintained and even has some wooden steps at a steep section near the summit. I would classify it as moderately strenuous, but definitely worth the effort We spent quite a long time on top since it was such a gorgeous Fall day with the... More

It's a 700 ft climb, so if you are not in the best of shape, I would recommend frequent breaks, particularly on the short trail, which is fairly steep and rocky (though not dangerously so). My 20-year-old son and I climbed up the short trail and down the long one and even he seemed pretty winded at times. My wife... More

Have done this hike many times & it never disappoints-especially for the views at the top. Would agree with other reviewers that, due to the steepness & boulders, I would consider this more moderate than easy

Don't be deceived by the "easy" reviews. I've done a lot of hiking and would rate this a moderate hike with a pretty steep ascent. My wife and I did it in 45 minutes going up and slightly quicker going down. Beautifully maintained trail with good markings only eclipsed by the view from the summit.....WOW!
