A wonderful hike close to downtown Naiagara
Jun 2021
Convenient to downtown, features great hikes, excellent views, and beautiful scenery all around! Everyone should take a morning to hike here. Be aware - LOTS of (uneven) stairs

Swirly!

The power of the river as it narrows and curves is amazing. Even from way above, the swirling of the water, currents, and power are evident

Great Hiking Trail
Jul 2021
Just a short distance north of the river is the Whirlpool State Park and its hiking trail. You can walk for a great distance in either direction, and even descend down to the water level. It offers break taking views, especially of the rapids and whirlpool. Definitely a one-of-a-kind trip.

Where else can you see this?
Aug 2021 • Family
Easy stop about 10 minutes north of Niagara Falls. From the falls, take Whirlpool Road (go past the aquarium). The drive goes by some scary areas of Niagara Falls (the city) but the area around the park is very nice.

Takes 15 minutes to see the scenic view and you could definitely make out the whirlpool while we were there. The water in the sun was a beautiful turquoise green and it added to the beautiful scenery.

If you have young kids, there is also a pretty nice playground in the park, so you can take a break while they play. No charge to enter the park or for parking.

beautiful views!
Jul 2021
Gorgeous views of the Niagara river. It was not overcrowded. There are also trails that you can take to get closer to the rapids.

Fascinating stories!

Amazing how people will tempt fate - that whirlpool has so much power, yet looks so peaceful! Beautiful sight that I will only ever experience with my eyes, thank you!

Not really much to see

Make you know what you are looking at. We had a guide that could point out the cause of whirlpool and explained why changes direction. If you have time worth seeing but not missing a whole lot if you skip it.

Prune the darned trees!
Jun 2021
Park is nice and well kept but I suspect the main reason it is visited is for the views of the Niagara river and whirlpool. Unfortunately, the trees and bushes have been left untrimmed and now block a great deal of the views, meaning that in a lot of areas you can't see more than a foot in front of you when you should be seeing the river and gorge.

Amazing whirlpools form as you are looking down
May 2021 • Family
This is a great stop along the trails. It has plenty of parking. There is a trail that goes down but we hung out on the top of trail staring down at the water. The Rapids are nearly at a 6 on the difficulty scale. You can see the whirlpools forming. Its a wonderful experience. The state park has restrooms.

Fascinating History
May 2021
The whirlpool is beautiful, the rushing water soothing to hear and exciting to see. But most of all, it was interesting to hear how the whirlpool was formed and how the falls were once located further down river, but have moved gradually over time due to erosion!
