Great scenery with beautiful mountains and great viewpoints. Take a guide and see some of the hidden places or visit the local mountainpeople.

We only stayed in Serra Malagueta for a few hours, went with kids. Everything very well organized with maps and parking places. Viewpoints are splendid, we saw a few endemic plant and animal species.

The headquarters are nice and clean, new and with AC. In the park there was no ranger to see. But there was a guy with a gun hunting monkeys (did not see any) and people chopping trees. The walk in the reserve is scenic and...More

if you want to experience the Serra Malagueta on a short (5-6 km) and rather easy walk, just do the Cural de Asno. It follows a plateau, then descends into a ribeira, bringing you close to some old houses, and giving beautiful views of the...More

I walked through Malagueta a few weeks ago. The weather was amazing as was the scenery and terrain. It's wonderfully diverse. The altitude changes so subtly that you don't realize just how high you are when you reach the peak. I was collecting some Biomechanics...More

We walked down through the national park to Hortelao. Long descent through villages and some of the remote parts of Santiago. Beautiful scenery. Chatted (!) to some local families on the way down and it was fascinating to hear (through an interpreter) how they live....More

This is not a difficult walk, but there is quite a lot of descent ( we dropped about 3300 feet on our walk). We passed through deserted villages and saw a grey headed kingfisher on our way. It is a green and fertile area, and...More
