The Fire Island Ferry gets you over to Ocean Beach from Bay Shore easily and fairly quickly - ~30 mins. They have signs at the Bay Shore terminal saying absolutely NO bicycles will be transported via the passenger ferry, and that's important since bikes are...More

You get so much in just a 3 block square area. Can't go wrong here. Young kids, teens, young adults, and adults all have something going on.

If you don't rent a house here, it's fun to do a day trip to enjoy the sun and sand. But it's expensive and not something most of us would do too often. Cash only for parking and the ferry. Nice restaurants for drinking and...More

When you aren't even allowed to eat a sandwich on the beach (seriously, there is a "no food on the beach"), and are only allowed to drink water from a clear bottle, there is something seriously wrong with a beach and the petty little tyrants...More

Having never been to FI, I had high expectations. It was all the hype and more yet being such a laid bac, safe, pretend fairy tale like place. I felt like I was in the Truman Show as it did not seem like the real...More

We came here as day trippers and it was really nice! It felt very nautical and laid back. Everything was very close to each other as far as the restaurants and shops. The beach was only a 10 minute walk and it looked lovely and...More

The biggest town on Fire island is a fun and beautiful place to visit. Many shops & restaurants. Afew blocks and you're in the ocean. Weekends get a little too busy with the bars though.

This is a busy beach since a lot of ferry travelers take Day trips. The town has done cute shops, bars and restaurants. The bayside is the perfect place to watch the sunset.

Beautiful beach but they have a lot of restrictions. Nickname is "land of NO" No food, no frisbees, no balls, no drinks other than water.... Fine is $125 and cops are walking about
