I had the pleasure of attending How to Promote Your Art: WORD Artist Panel III and Writing the Walls ll December 3, 2016. This was my first visit and I look forward to attending more events at HVCCA. The panel discussion was informative and the exhibit and poetry presentation amazing. Kudos to Mara Mills, Marc and Livia Strauss and the... More

I visited the HVCCA to view the exhibit "Word," and was greatly impressed with the work and its presentation, ranging from paintings, to sculpture, to construction and installations. The show challenges the viewer to find meaning through the overt, cryptic, or textural inclusion of text within the works. Owing to the large exhibit space, each work has room to stand... More

My husband and I were not only blown away and deeply touched by many of the exhibits we saw at The Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art (HVCCA) in Peekskill, New York -- we had the opportunity to actually meet several artists who happened to be at the museum and had an emotional and insightful conversation with these charming, creative... Who would put a leading museum in a economically depressed town? That's what the founders did and the exhibits of contemporary art are always fabulous and thought-provoking. And, as a result, the town has gone through a renaissance with a sculpture park and many new restaurants of quality. Bravo!

I have a special fondness for museums which reflect the sensibility of a single collector, and this museum is a perfect example. I like the fact that some of the art is created in the museum. The museum is filled with treasures. Both the permanent and the temporary exhibits are fascinating.

This time of year, many people head up through Westchester County ready to spend the day being dazzled by the colorful fall leaves. If you have planned such a weekend trip or if you are just a lover of art, make sure you take an hour or two to visit this amazing "just the right size" museum. The current exhibit... More

When this museum first opened I was disappointed. I thought the collection was cold and depressing. That is no longer the case. In the last few years this has become an exciting vibrant museum, that certainly has its serious moments, but is always alive. If you have fifteen minutes go for fifteen minutes, or stay for the afternoon. It's never... More

This place is understated from the outside. Make the effort to visit Peekskill and especially the Center for Contemporary Art. I was so impressed by the collection of work for the Words exhibition. Moving, challenging, exactly what contemporary art should be. And all for a $5 admission fee!

I live in Peekskill and was thrilled to discover this gem in my own backyard! Beautiful space, with a stimulating, well displayed art show of contemporary artists who use "words" to add to the meaning of their art works. Many interactive displays; an explicit, informative catalogue you can carry around with you, and a wonderfully warm and welcoming Museum manager... More

There's no need to hike over to Manhattan or Brooklyn for edgy, exciting, accessible contemporary art. Plopped in the middle of historic (and charming!) Peekskill, HVCCA has all the drama, talent, and eccentricity of a major NYC gallery, with the addition of emerging, regional artists (willing to take risks and experiment, unlike so many stodgy elites) that you won't find...
