This mid-sized regional art museum offers an enjoyable 2 to 3 hours of art treasure experiences of some really famous artists (Matisse, Pollock, Monet, El Greco...). The first floor houses American, Contemporary Art and a small collection of Africa, Oceanic and the America's Art. A decent gallery space is provided for changing exhibitions. The second floor contains many small galleries... More

A true hidden gem. Amazing art in a great building. The displays do change from time to time and the cafe is quite nice. I personally love the second floor though there is some truly excellent work on the lower levels. And the courtyard is charming.

fun fact, some of the art at the gallery was from George Eastman, what you see at his grand home is re-productions. Monet is here, some American history art. worth seeing. forget about cell phones, you get to talk to each other here!

First time in Rochester, solicited the opinion of a native, as to what to visit if one only had a couple of free hours in Rochester, their suggestion was the Memorial Art Gallery. Excellent suggestion and choice. I have visited numerous art museums in large cities (NYCity, Montreal, Boston, Paris, Berlin), but am always surprised by the little gems in... More

Terrific regional spot--friendly, warm, inviting and stunning. A hidden gem. There is always something terrific and lively to see among the special exhibitions, and the permanent collection is encyclopedic, charming, and a true respite.

When I read the reviews here, I was a bit uncertain about what to expect. But upon visiting the gallery, I was taken aback by the breadth of its collection and the lovely venue in which it is housed. If you're an art lover and anywhere near Rochester, I would make tracks to this place. The galleries of American art... More

Memorial Art Gallery has a well developed curriculum of activities and cultural events. There is so much to see in the galleries I find that I get saturated after about two hours. A membership allows you to 're enter at any time to fully appreciate the wonderful exhibitions.

This is not the biggest art museum in the world, but it is still descent sized. They have quite a diverse collection of art for the size of the museum. They have American, Egyptian, Asian, African, Oceana, etc. Many, many beautiful pieces to enjoy. I spent a couple of hours going through the different collections. The cost was affordable and... This was a very interesting exhibit and the quantity of work this man produced was amazing. He had a very mathematical mind and consulted with mathematicians on many of his works. The detail in his work was extraordinary. He didn't use a lot of color because he worked mostly in woodblocks and mezzotints. I am glad that I had the... More

My wife and I have visited twice in the past year, both times drawn by special exhibits, but we wandered through the museum and found it to include a good selection and one that reflects various culture.
