I have been on several tours at the Fort at various times and find them to be quite interesting. Both the Fort and adjacent Battery Weed are historical landmarks which were obsolete by the time new armaments were installed such as the cannons. Tours take...More

Visited with a military history buff. We focued on Battery Weed, one of a pair of fortresses on opposite sides of the Narrows guarding New York Harbor. It's an eerie strucure, a castle hollowed out in back and lined with gun emplacements so that any...More

Bring a camera. From the overlook, you can get GREAT pictures of the Narrows, the Verrazano bridge, and the inside of the fort. Fort Wadsworth was first used during the Revolutionary War, and one of the oldest military structures in the US

I've seen the fort from the Verrazano Bridge and decided to drop in to see if it would be worth while to take Scouts to. It appeared that theNational Park Visitor Center wasn't yet open to the public - soon I hope. And the information...More

Offers nice walking paths and great scenery. Has hills that may be steep for some people. Good points for taking pictures. Information stations offer a glimpse into history of the fort.

Inside the grounds of Fort Wadsworth sits Fort Tompkins, overlooking the harbor and Battery Weed underneath it. It's equal parts historic, architecturally stunning and creepy. We recently went to a special program there hosted by the Alice Austen House and it was s great venue.

I bring all out of town visitors to this park. You need your walking shoes to explore the grounds. We bought our lunch and ate at the highest point overlooking the city. We even saw the Queen Mary sailing from the NYC pier that day....More

I’m not sure about where you would have a reception. There is a church where you could have a wedding, or you can do like my son did and just get married at the overlook with NYC and the Verrazano bridge in the background.

From the Staten Island Ferry, in St. George, take the S51 to Fort Wadsworth. Only takes 10-15 minutes by bus. Return via same bus. Fort Wadsworth also connects to South Beach/FDR boardwalk through foot path or via same bus... More
