Visited around Holloween weekend. Extra characters were available to show the house and grounds. The location seems almost undisdurbed from the 1850's.

A journey back in time to a lovely home of one of America's great authors...the house, located on 10 acres right on the Hudson River, is a picturesque little cottage with small quaint rooms, and with our guide in period dress the house seemed to...More

True confession: I grew up five miles from Sunnyside and had never visited until yesterday, 50+ years later. But I probably didn't miss many changes as this quaint home seems well anchored in the late 19th century. The tour is great, the docents (in costume)...More

We came to Sunnyside after visiting brilliant Kykuit, so it isn't likely that it would be over the moon about the simple house. But we did enjoy the visit very much. The house is set along the railroad track and overlooking the Hudson River. It...More

We only toured the grounds because we were not in the area during their open times. Quaint cottage. Again we did not get to see inside or even the gift shop, but wanted to see where Washington Irving lived.

Sunny side was very neat. Our tour guide was very awkward and just looked at the floor the entire time. Beautiful grounds, amazing history!

We very much enjoyed our visit to Sunnyside. It was fun to learn about Washington Irving. The docents were very knowledgeable and friendly. However, you must be on a tour to visit, and it is a good idea to have a reservation, ESPECIALLY on the...More

My wife and I took the tour of Sunnyside (on a very rainy day) and enjoyed it immensely. The tour guide ---dressed in 1850 costume-- was pleasant and knowledgeable. The tour lasted a little over an hour, but would have taken longer had it not...More

I sure would like to know how to purchase tickets online in advanced so we would be able to go inside Washington Irving's home? Is there a way to do that? Please advise.

Yes, tickets can be purchased online through the historic Hudson valley website. Go to the historic Hudson valley website, whose address can't be posted for some reason, and look for tickets on the right hand side. Click... More

Hi Samantha, There is limited access to the grounds without a ticket. You really can't get much further than the parking lot and the walk to the office. Lyndhurst on the other hand, right next door allows full access to the... More
