Beautiful Tamil Temple

This is a beautiful Tamil temple in Grand Baie and great for photographs. On a very busy road with hardly any pavement and even less parking, so be prepared to walk a bit.

While raining, what is supposed to happened pretty often in Mauritius, plan your holiday in a different way than going to the beach. Tamil Surya Oudaya Sangam Temple is a solution for a rainy day.

We could not enter the temple, it was closed on the occasions when we were near it. But it is impressive from the outside and great for taking pictures. If you are with a vehicle you may have a difficult time finding a place to park but once you find it, there are also very interesting views towards the sea... More

Not huge or spectacular, but small and very peaceful. I took time to shed the shoes and visit inside as well, and will follow up with research of the various shrine objects. I'm sure it will be in sightful.

This was the first Hindu temple we saw in Mautitius and were really quite impressed. However, as we came by car, it took us quite some time driving in crowded narrow streets to finally find a spot we were not even sure was legal. The street where the temple is located is quite lively and crowded with people, cars and... More

We took the local bus to Grand Baie and walked along the coast road to reach this Temple. It took about thirty minutes as the path disappeared at times and we had to compete with the busy traffic on the road. It is not the most interesting of walks, particularly as the local bus goes right past the entrance (the... More

Some great masonry statues and paintings in this temple but all rather worn and neglected. The outside world pushes at the edges of this temple but nevertheless a peaceful place despite being near to the main Road. We were encouraged to make a donation to take photos.

Not really worth the trip. It's clean and tidy, but we were ready to move on really quickly. If you're in the area, it's fine, but don't go out of your way.

This temple is very beautifully decorated, what you would expect from a place of worship. A lovely old man saw us in, you have to donate a small amount 100rupees to take picture which from travelling to other countries and visiting mosques and temple this is a very kind gesture. I enjoy seeing into different beliefs and religions so enjoyed... More
