there is a second lagoon to the left, so continue up the next mountain face - don't just stop there. last bit is a little steep but otherwise hike isn't too bad.

We started this hike at Hosteria El Pilar and walked back to El Chalten. Really glad we did it that direction as the climb up from town would have been really steep. The first part is through a lenga forest, which helped to calm the wind. Every now and then we would get a view of the glaciers. We stopped... More

The hike to Laguna de los Tres is beautiful. This can be done as an out and back hike from El Chalten, but we got a bus ride to El Pilar and walked back to El Chalten. The side hike to the viewpoint for Mount Fitzroy is only for those with good knees, as it is very steep. But the... More

We loved this hike! It was quite tough, but the views are definitely worth it! It is 8km each way, and the last kilometer is very steep - you have to ascend 400m, but the path is fun - you walk through forests, pass a river, we even had a short snow storm on the way there, then at the... More

You'll need to set aside an entire day for this trip. The last 1.25 km of the hike is the toughest part, with very steep slopes, and slippery rocky ground. At times, the wind was so strong that I almost felt being blown off. It was quite tough, and I had to take breathers along the way. However, the view... More

My husband and I are in our late twenties and in decently good shape. We did hike to the top of Laguna de los Tres through the less traveled trail that passed by Piedras Blancas. Piedras Blancas was beautiful and the hike was easy. The hike was leisurely until you get passed the tree line on the Laguna de Los... More

I am not a sporty person...so when my husband suggested we hike to laguna de los 3...for 8 hours...i was not very enthusiastic. But i made it. And the scenery is worth the hike. I read different stories about this...so i will tell you my experience. The first two km are a bit difficult because they are not entirely flat... More

This is the marquee day hike in El Chalten or for that matter anywhere in Patagonian Argentina. Due to its popularity expect crowds. This hike will take you close to the base of Mount Fitz Roy and to the shores of Laguna De Los Tres, a stunning glacial lake with intense blue color. There are two ways to do this... More

Came up via Pillar (recommended) then out straight to El Chalten. Very nice hike. The steep kilometer felt like, say, 5km, but not scary.
