Those who have written about this architectural monument of stone and plants-dubbed the "Generalife of the North" and "Galician Versailles"-found they needed to compare it to universally known monuments in order to express both the singularity and significance of what is the best preserved of the Galician country estates. Although seemingly exaggerated, the comparison aptly conveys the fact that, although it was built very far from the Court, its design was based on courtly baroque gardens.

We took a taxi from Santiago de Compostela to the Pazo de Oca. Before going we asked the taxi driver for an estimate to take us there and to wait until we finished about an hour and a half later. We did that and returned to Santiago de Compostela and the taxi cost us 50 euros. We were very happy... More

One of the best kept secrets in northern Spain!! Fabulous self-sustaining palace with one of the best kept gardens in Spain! One can feel the work of generations that have gone into its gardens and walls. Full of special stories and anecdotes! If you can, get a guided tour! AC

If you can make time to stop here for 1 hour or so, do so. It is so picturesque and peaceful to walk around.

Absolutely beautiful. Forget the whole versailles comparison. It's not that, but in its own right it is lovely and WAY less people then Versailles. The four of us were the only people there wandering around the gardens and grottos and ponds and pergolas. Take a picnic.

As I visited it both ways, enjoying its environment within a company event and on my way, making there a short stop to have a coffee and a short rest. It is a magnificent old pazo (palace in Galician language) that is being utilized for events

The Pazo (palace) de Oca consists solely of the gardens, which were really beautiful and tranquil. It's about 30mins drive from the city of Santiago de Compostela. If you don't have a car you can take the bus - Castromil Monbus from Santiago de Compostela. The stop is Balboa, and you will need to walk about a kilometre from where... More
