The Jungle Place is a licensed sanctuary for the endangered Spider Monkey....

The Jungle Place is a licensed sanctuary for the endangered Spider Monkey. They rescue and rehabilitate orphaned monkeys who were victims of the illegal pet trade, poaching, habitat destruction and exploitation. All too often these beautiful, highly intelligent primates become victims when humans and nature collide in a natural paradise like The Riviera Maya. The in-person tours they offer to help support the sanctuary are the very definition of sustainable and ecologically responsible tourism. The owners, Heidi and Joel, are a wonderful couple who originally moved to the area to retire but instead devoted their lives to care for these rescued monkeys. They provide them with an incredible amount of love, individual attention, medical care and specialized diets, all within a beautiful and meticulously well-kept habitat right in their native jungle.Visit in-person to meet the owners and the monkeys, view the facilities and habitat, and see first-hand the level of care that your donation helps provide. Be sure to reserve your tour well in advance, as they allow only a very limited number of visits per week.

We were in Playa Del Carmen for a week and packed a lot in, but this by far was the highlight of our entire trip. We went to Cozumel, we went to Tulum, we visited lots of highly recommended restaurants/tourist attractions, etc... But The Jungle Place was our favorite. The couple that runs this place TRULY cares about the health... More

This is a once in a lifetime experience, but let me caution you--it is not for all. My family of 7 (ages 10-67) visited here recently. Let it be known that the monkeys crawl all over you, may hug you, may sit on your head or any other place they so desire, look for bugs in your hair, etc. The... More

This place is incredible and so worth the trip. Heidi and Joel really care about the monkeys and are able to provide visitors with a once in a lifetime experience. The monkeys are so cute and playful and amazing to be around. We will definitely come back on our next trip to Mexico!

What a hidden gem! We've looked at the Jungle Place a couple times as an optional excursion in this area. We passed it up as the price was high for our family of 6 for what seemed like an hour long experience. We finally pulled the trigger this year and we couldn't be happier! Heidi and Joel are dedicated to... More

We had the most special time with these endangered spider monkeys. This place is run by the lovely Heidi and Joel and is not at all commercial and has a very relaxed feel. You do need to book in advance, possibly emailing a few times. You go in and sit with the monkeys who will climb/sit/walk over you! Heidi and... More

Our family of five really enjoyed our visit to The Jungle Place. Heidi and Joel are very kind people who truly care about their monkey family. We were able to have lots of interaction with the monkeys. It was fascinating to see their individual personalities come out during our visit...from Eshelle the affectionate hugger to Luna who doesn't like to... More

An amazing place run by extraordinary people! The story of how the Jungle Place came to be and the work that is being done to create better lives for these animals is heartwarming. It is evident that Heidi and Joel are passionate about educating people and providing the best possible care for these monkeys. My family and I left there... More

This tour was recommended by a friend of one of the members of our group. She was told to book it far in advance of her visit as there are a limited number of tours each week. Although the cost may seem high, you are helping save the lives of spider monkeys that have been rescued. It is my understanding... More

I stumbled across this tour on the internet and am so glad I did. It was one of the most fun tours we have ever done! Please book in advance because there are only a few tours per week. We drove ourselves to The Jungle Place and it was easy to get there with Heidi's directions that she sent to... More

I cane here a few years ago on a trip to Mexico, it was one of the most memorable things I have ever done!! The monkey's are little cheeky chappies, and if they can steal something they will! So listen when you are told to take everything off! One of those in our party didn't and had to say goodbye... More
