We are a sustainable family historic farm offering tours with the public, schools, summer camps, and private or special events. We grow alternative crops such as hops, medicinal herbs, and raise butterflies. We have a butterfly house with live butterflies and pollinator fields full of native flowers. We have special events such as our hop harvest tour in mid summer and our monarch tag and release in the first week of October.

A surprise of a trip

I went here several years ago with friends. It was not during picking season, but learning about the hops and seeing butterflies was interesting.

To get to this farm you will have a lovely drive through Black Mountain, NC. The farm itself is compact and easy to see within 30 minutes. We had a great time walking around looking at the blueberries bushes, pollinator plants, hop vines and the butterfly enclosure. It was our first stop on the farm tour, so we weren't able... More

We've been for both the hop tour and the general farm tour and loved both! Farmer Van has lots of great stories that children and adults alike enjoy! He is very informative and loves to share the history of the farm with everyone. We loved learning about the hops and brewing beer as well as the importance of bees and... More

The owner of the farm was very interesting and fun to listen to. Blueberries, hops and butterflies are some of the main attractions that you will find here. Lots of wild flowers and gardens with butterfly attracting blooms.

We went out to the farm this evening for the first time. Picked lots of delicious blueberries and the kids said it was one of their favorite things to do in the summer! Van was very friendly, and we'll definitely be visiting again.

A quick tour of a small and diverse property by the super knowledgeable owner, Van, is worth every penny! He proudly showed off the ways he is diversified his work in collaboration with various universities through grants to support his small operation. Learned all about how hops are grown, very time consuming! He sells to a local Black Mountain brewery--would... More

Stopped by on a lark since it's blueberry season and with a name like "Hop'n Blueberry" it seemed like we couldn't go wrong -- and we didn't! Van met us early and set us up with a little pick-our-own. Afterwards we got a nice tour and description of the farm, the philosophy and how things have changed for both Van... More
