Touring a historic coastal town

House was full of great historical facts. We took the trolley tour from here. Guide and driver extremely knowledgeable. Very good way to learn the history of the town.

Barker House is a beautifully restored and maintained piece of American history. When you visit, DO avail yourself of the docents, as they have wonderful tales to tell. The house also has a wonderful gift shop.

I continue to receive newsletters from The Penelope Barker House and enjoy reading about this wonderfully Historic Community and what new things are going on or what activities this town has going on during the course of a year. When you step into this visitors center, the staff so graciously give you full details of the history of not only... More

Lovely old house serving as Welcome Center on Edenton waterfront, particularly gorgeous on a sunny day. Nice exhibits, view from house of water, but a stand out gift shop with "sale" items on second floor. Trolley tours start from here, but not running on Sunday post Thanksgiving.

My husband and I had no idea what to expect from Edenton, NC but we were pleasantly surprised at how we fell in love with the town! We started our adventure at the Penelope Barker House where we learned about the area and historical events. From there we took a trolly that showed us all around the town. The trolly... More

A nice stop while visiting the town. It is worth walking through. The lighthouse is just a short walk. The courthouse is also a short walk plus a beautiful location.

The Barker house is also the Welcome Center. The bathrooms are very nice. You can tour the house, shop at the gift store, and learn about historic Edenton from the knowledgeable staff. This is also where you buy tickets for the trolley tour. And be sure to check out the story on the Civil War cannons that face the water.

This is a beautiful home on the water with lots of history inside. The staff is very friendly and informative. They have a really nice gift shop with very unique items and lots of books for sale. You can also buy your trolley tickets here. I enjoyed the history of the Barker House and sitting out on the back porch,... More
