The road going up to the parking lot is steep and windy, but very fun to ride on a motorcycle. You have to pay to park ($ 5.00 per car or bike; they accept the 'America the Beautiful, Senior Pass; one of us got in free with the pass, I had to pay for the bike). The have a nice... More

Great place to go visit in Highlands, NC. Beautiful scenery. I am a grandma that went with my daughter, son-in-law, nine year old granddaughter, and one year old grandson. It had great mountain scenery. We are from north Florida so it was a welcome change.

The Wayah Bald Lookout Tower was burned over during the fires that impacted the area in November of 2016. The wooden roof structure and the visitor signs were are lost, but the stone tower its self, was unharmed. The Forest Service will rebuild the roof structure and the fire will be just another colorful note in the twoer's history.

At times going up the mountain on the dirt and gravel road, we thought we were never going to get there. But eventually we made it and found a truly beautiful sight. It's one of those "glad we did it"excursions. Probably wouldn't go back but glad we were there.

Beautiful, stunning views. There is no bad time to visit. I love to go in the summer because its so much cooler than the valley. I love to go in the winter because you can see for miles. Definitely worth the hike to get there

It's a bit of a drive up a gravel Forest Service road but worth the effort. The view is a fantastic as is the tower. There is a latrine style restroom so take some hand cleaner.

The drive up is totally worth it - especially if you want to cool off. There must have been a difference of about 10 degrees in temperature from where the dirt road starts to the tower. Glad we did it. And kudos to the brave, athletic souls that actually hike the whole way!

Beautiful ride through the countryside from Franklin to Wayah Bald. Once you reach the top there is a short paved walk to the Lookout Tower. The view is beautiful. You can drive (or walk) beyond the stop for the tower to a clearing which has a nice grassy area perfect for a picnic.
