OK, the original CSS Neuse that once stood on this site was moved and on display downtown Kinston at the CSS Neuse Interpretive Museum. This site contains a small informative museum of Revolutionary War hero and 1st Governor of NC Richard Caswell. Friendly informative museum host. Site contains the gravesite of Caswell. Limited opening hours, 10-4 Friday and Saturday, but... More

Based on the Trip Advisor reviews, we had hoped to see the remains of the Confederate Ironclad vessel CSS Neuse, but it was nowhere to be seen. This seems somehow fitting for a ship that never carried out its mission – running aground before seeing action and eventually being burned to prevent capture. Turns out, the original remnants were moved... More

Recently this exhibit was moved to better location to help preserve the artifact. I don't believe that the exhibit is now viewable but should open soon. I had no idea how large these ironclads were until I saw the CSS Neuse. It has been undergoing studies to help stop the deterioration. At its last location there was no admission charge... More

The CSS Neuse is one of a few confederate iron clads on exhibit *two I think) and only a handful period on display. Very small museum but good and a good friendly staff. The boat will be moving to a new museum in downtown Kinston sometime soon with a better museum, just not sure of the exact date.

When we visited the site on May 1st we didn't expect much. But there was a tour guide who explained the ships history very detailed and vivdly. She also answered all our questions with great patience and showed us the models they have at the site. Afterwards we stopped at the replica but it could top the real ship. Very... More

The hull of the CSS Neuse is on display. The CSS Neuse was an iron-clad vessel built during the Civil War. It never saw much action and was eventually burned to the waterline in order to keep it from falling into the hands of the Union Army. We were surprised at how large it was. This is an interesting historical... More
