It's a quiet walk

What's better than enjoying nature? Take the time too relax and enjoy a nice easy walk. Be sure to use some bug spray and check for ticks when you leave.

The husband and I took our 11 month old son on this short and simple hike. It took us a while to find the trailhead and the directions on trip advisor took us through some back country roads that were not paved. The trail is very simple and supposed to be a loop but part of the trail is under... More

Short, moderate trail, with white markings on trees to follow. Took us approximately 30-45min to hike, trailed along large creek.

Yup, my friend isn't much for hiking. Actually it's a walk. The trees, plant life, creek, sounds, mushrooms, sounds, quiet, easy to follow trails made it worth it for both of us.

Trail was easy to find, parking lot was empty on the week day morning. According to my Fitbit we hiked 5 miles in and out. The water was high so when we got to the stream crossing on the blazed trail the trail went way under water so we hung a left and followed the in marked but obvious trail... More

Walked on July 7th and once I started I was quickly stopped on one of the paths by downed trees and there was no visible path after. Backtracked and took another route. Check for very small ticks afterwards!!! Also, I don't think many made it to the trail loop that I did as I hit a spider web about every... More

As the photos for this review attest, this is a very diverse and attractive -- beautiful in places -- forest that is excellent for "wilderness wandering" if you don't want well-maintained trails, signage, or many indications of civilization. If, however, you want something more formal, marked, or maintained, this is probably not what you're looking for. I rated it "average"... More

Love this place most in the spring, when the trees begin to leaf out and the forest floor is carpeted with early flowers. Trails are not well maintained, and hikers may occasionally find themselves back tracking or detouring because of fallen trees.

My wife and I visited the trail yesterday and found that the trail fairy had visited since the last review. It was cleared of debris and had new and clear trail markers. It was a great short hike and a chance to see a true black water creek.

A recent visit to Island Creek Trail reminded me that mother nature will reclaim in short order what she considers hers. While still fairly easy to move around in, there is more dead fall, tip ups and missing markers than I recall from several years ago. A worthwhile project for an outdoor club to spend a few afternoons on.
