Expanses of sand, warm south-facing beaches with gentle waves--ideal for families wanting old-fashioned fun in a low-rise atmosphere with few motels or attractions. It's almost untouched by the 21st Century! The entire strand is easily accessible by free end-of-street parking every 3 blocks for 8 miles. There's lots of casual take-out food close by, along with a limited number of... More

Plenty of public access sites and parking. Broad, flat beaches. Great for wading, swimming, and shelling.

Because Oak Island runs East to West and faces South, the waves as much gentler than other beaches, which is great for families. That is why Oak Island is a wonderful destination for families. The climate is more temperate than the beaches north of it...more comparable to the climate at Myrtle Beach, SC, which is less than 1 hour south... More

We were here for the long holiday weekend, and the temps were in the low 70s, so we headed to the beach for a stroll in the sand. The place was a really nice long white sand beach, with lots of folks taking advantage of the nice weather. Not to many in the water, as it was pretty cold in... More

The beaches are peaceful and beautiful! Oak Island has numerous beach access areas with free parking. There are restaurants, motels, grocery store and a variety of other retail businesses on the island and easily accessible. If you want to take a nature walk or view the local wildlife, there are parks and nature walks easily accessible with free parking! There... More

Me and my new wife got married right on the beach of Oak Island on November 8th 2016. our wedding was on the west end of the island and the beach was absolutely beautiful. Plus we had two military helicopters fly over right after we walked down the isle.

Nice and tranquil at this time of year. The temperature is in the 50s and the beaches are not crowded. Several beach access points and places to park. Some stores have closed following the summer season, but several are open year round.

This is a great stretch of beach with good waves. It gets very windy, which is good for kites, but not good for tents.

Visited Oak Island for the first time as a family vacation for the week. This was only several weeks after Matthew and obviously Oak Island sustained damage to the beach dunes in some areas. The beach is still beautiful. This is a great place for families, not commercial but close to many attractions to interest any age. Great vacation area... More
