We visited the museum on this weekend to see the encampment of civil war reenactors and for the several presentations on the history of the war. The highlight for me was the display of the restored Regimental Flag of the 35th NC Infantry on traveling loan from the State museum in Raleigh. The reenactor group and the Sons of Confederate... The building was constructed in the 1930s by the CCC. Has served different functions over the years but is currently a museum. Some interesting exhibits about Appalachian life in general. There are also some original log cabins (original but relocated from somewhere else) on the grounds. Nice setting with a stream running through the property. .Probably best visited during one... Yes, this isn't the Louvre; it's a small town museum, but we loved it! My husband's ancestors are from this place and my granddaughter and I had a wonderful time there. Peggy Silvers isn't just a docent; she is a local historian, a genealogist and a book author. Our trip to Old Fort would NOT have been the same without... More

Host was a very pleasant lady. This Museum is small but has an interesting historical view of the area. Glass powerline Insulators, a still and black integration in the Asheville. Pleasant visit.

i enjoyed the traveling 1916 Flood exhibit. I found the staff to be friendly and knowledgable. The museum is small but packed with a great collection. The two historic log cabin outside are alone worth a visit. I will return.

This museum is very well done. It's quite small, and the whole thing can be done in about 30 minutes. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed exhibits about desegregation in western Carolina, the spread of the availability of electricity in western Carolina, and the traditional medicinal uses of plants and herbs, among other things. There appeared to be... More
