I'd driven by Pilot Mountain many times, but never realized that you could actually drive up & explore the top! Although you can't actually get to the *very* top, there is a good trail to hike around it, with varied levels of difficulty depending on...More

We went the last weekend of October. It was very chilly, needed a couple jackets and a beanie. Took the 3 mile hike (one way) then did the extra .8 mile around the top of the mountain. Beautiful colors and gorgeous views!

Stopped at Pilot Mountain with kids for a lunch break. We had a great lunch and enjoyed the overlook and short hike. I think the kids love it even more than I.

Campsites are open year around. Although I did find out last winter that during inclement weather the affected state parks will close.

I do not know of any sites with hookups on the mountain in the park, but there is a campsite about 1/4 mile downhill from the gate with full hookups.
