Shame on the museum, they didn't inform the public about relocating the museum. I wasted an hour driving to the museum, only to find out that it was relocated to a different adress (5 & 4 street). Subsequently, I drive to the new museum and it was still under construction. DON'T BE UNINFORMED LIKE I WAS. It's planned to reopen... More

The Kaifeng Museum is an unremarkable regional archeological museum that is world-famous because it houses the three stellae of the historical Kaifeng Jewish community. These three 500-year-old stellae are the only material remains of the community, though there is also a living community center in the city itself. The Jewish exhibit is on the top floor of the museum, closed... More

The Kaifeng Museum is fairly small but has some interesting exhibits, including pottery, bronze, coins, and calligraphy. The exhibits are laid out and lit for easy viewing, although there are very few notes in English. There is also a changing exhibition; when I was there, it was landscape painting. The museum is located near the lake, which is a nice... More

Sadly, this museum is only small and difficult to find due to poor signage. The only English sign outside refers to a 'Teaching Base', so it is best recognised by two old cannon outside the main entrance. Even the man on the gate asked me where I was going! Still, at least it's free and is currently undergoing some refurbishment... More

For a city with such an amazing history, I was disappointed that there was not more to see. There are a few artifacts and a lot of pictures. I'm sure I would have enjoyed it more if there was English. I'm guessing the best artifacts are kept in the provincial museum in Zhengzhou. Also, the bathroom were dirty squatty potties.

There are 4 floors of artifacts found around China and in Kaifeng. One is a stela in Hebrew. There was a Jewish presence in the city until fairly recently, and the museum has a couple of artifacts documenting this. The museum is well-worth visiting, especially if you are interested in the history of the city and the area.
