Prior to our trip we sent away for information and without hesitation they forwarded heaps of brochures and maps al the way to Australia. Whilst I do a lot of research on the internet it helps to have hardcopy brochures and maps to carry with you on hikes etc. Thanks for a truly wonderful experience in Saxon Switzerland

I thought the response in the Bad Schandau tourist office was disappointing and the welcome luke warm. I felt that I was a nuisance in asking for advice and recommendations as to where to go and what to see. Did not venture back there during my stay despite having further questions.

Staff is very helpful and you are also able to arrange for rental bicycles there - it helps if you understand and speak a little german - but usually there will be assistants there who speak english also!

We were there looking for information to get to Bastei. The lady at the desk did not speak any English. So we missed the bus which runs to the bottom of Bastei trek and we had to walk 4kms to get there. The frequency of the bus service is around 1 per hour. So be prepared for it.

May be they have still this kind of "east german mentality" of YOU ARE A STRANGER AND WE DO NOT WANT YOU HERE, cosed shop mentality and definitely no awareness or kindness if you are in trouble - for example if you need to go online and the net is slow..

First of all you should know German to at least get some ingormation. But I think the women there do not have exact and copmrehensive informstion from Bad schnauda, Bastei, Rathen, pirna, and ... There is some free guides there that suggests some hiking trails but when I asked her to show me these locations on map it was impossible... More

The tourist office in Bad Schandau was open 7 days a week and until well into the evening. It had a good range of material available and was being used for booking accommodation. Unusually, they didn't speak much English but there are relatively few British tourists. There were a lot of information boards in the area, occasionally in English as... More

Very helpful staff and they speak great English. I found out that if I bought my train tickets here, they knew exactly what the best deal was and with our tickets, the ferry (which you must take to get to the Train station) is included with your ticket. They also have some local goods on sale and lots of maps... More

The most unhelpful tourist office ever. You would have thought that they would be glad to have visitors after the floods, especially when most businesses are trying tog et back in their feet. She made it very clear that if you could not speak German, you are not welcome!
