Walking distance from Wave Rock

If you've driven all this way to see Wave Rock then don't miss Hippo Yawn. Take a stroll out to the Salt Lakes and read the tourist boards along the way.

Iconic rock formation in Hyden WA. It's a leisurely walk from Wave Rock, Hyden. This is a group of very big rocks that looks like a yawning hippo!

Easy walk or short drive from Wave Rock. Definitely add this to the visit in this area. And yes it really does look like a hippo.

it's worth the stop - makes fun pictures. I would not drive all the way there just for that, but combined with Wave Rock, it's totally worth the photo opportunity.

We were glad that it was close to our accommodation and it didn't mean driving somewhere else. Very large cave. Good to take a few pictures in "the hippos mouth" not much else to do there. Take a fly screen hat. Worth a look.

You would not travel to such a remote area just to see this but given its proximity to Wave Rock it is worth the diversion. The story of Mulka is well signed.

It was a very hot day when visiting this area and you'd have to have a very big imagination to see a Hippopotamus here. Flies are everywhere so a hat net is advisable or loads of fly spray a must. Didn't take too long to look and move on to the local pub for a game of pool. No mobile... More

Part of our hour or so circuit walk through Hyden and the Wave Rock walk we checked out the Hippo’s Yawn and that was so intriguing. Took some pics, enjoyed the silence and continued on.

Do a one hour round circuit walk from the wave section of the rock, up the steps past the dam and up over the rock to its backside and continue along the track to Hippos Yawn with a short cut back to the main car park.
