this is a nifty little museum, filled with artifacts, and interesting exhibits. Some of the displays are interactive, and appealing to all ages. I liked that it made history seem more alive even to young visitors. Don't miss looking through the periscope! Free too!

We've been to the maritime museum in Beaufort many times and really liked it so when we went to Southport we wanted to go here and we weren't disapointed it was really excellent and we spent about an hour here they also have a nice small gift shop.

It is an nice small maritime museum. There are guides to explain some the items and tell stories about the ships that have been grounded off the shores.

This museum is a gem - the exhibits are attractive and easy to follow, tracing the region's maritime history from prehistoric times to the present.

Located at the center of Southport, the museum has interesting displays on the past history of the area. Staff is very friendly and helpful. This month a small overview on WWI which provided some good history about NC during that time. Free to visit, check it out.

This museum is small but chalked full of history. This museum is FREE admission and great for all ages. They have lots of good relics from the past to see and read about. Good way to spend an hour or so. Would recommend this tour to everyone.

North Carolina offers three maritime museums, one at Beaufort, on at Hatteras (the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum,) and one at Southport. This was our first visit to the Southport location. My wife and I are regular Museum visitors... she's a retired Museum professional. We found the NC Maritime Museum at Southport to be well laid, out, and well maintained,... More

The maritime museum at Southport, NC is small and concentrates on the maritime history of the local area. It is a block off the main street and a block from the river, next to the visitor center. It is worth a visit to get a taste of the local history, expecially if you are not familiar with the area.

The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The exhibits are nice and informative -check out the periscope form the sub. Admission is free but there is a donation bucket to help them out. GREAT way to kill an hour or so and get a little education at the same time!

This little museum is a wonderful place to visit to learn more about the history of Southport and see some interesting artifacts from the area. It is good for young and old and everything in-between. If you visit Southport, be sure to drop in. You can spend 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on whether you like to browse the... More
