I went to use the kayak ramp and the place is just right out of a magazine. Visit if you are in the area, you won't be disappointed! Great walking areas too!

This place is a lot of fun whether it's for a day or for a weekend of camping. Really nice boat ride to the island and also a lovely place to camp and avoid crowds. Not really much to do but you can enjoy swimming, fishing, hiking or walking the truly gorgeous beach! People of all ages can have a... More

We went to Bear Island for about four hours. It was a beautiful day. Even if you are coming in the winter like we do you'll have regular days in the 60s. Just be aware that the weather can turn quickly. A storm came up on us while on the boat ride back and it was nice to have the... More

Beautiful area, but tough kayak trip over to the beach, especially for non-kayakers. Lots of kayak "trails" in the marsh, though. There is a boat that takes people over to the beach. The beach is pretty and deserted, but looks similar to other beaches in the area.

This was my first visit to the park in about eight years. The state has spent money on it, putting up a visitors center with.displays and new bathhouse and refreshment stand on Bear Island. It's worth the $5 for adults or $3 for seniors and children to visit if you have at least three or four hours. If you want... More

This was a great ride on a ferry with a great boat captain! If you are not able to walk far stay on land. It is a tuff walk for the handicap from the landing to the beach. BUT, it is worth the view if you can make it. Do not linger at the beach as you need to allow... More

Our first time at Hammocks Beach State park while exploring the area. What a beautiful place.....picnic tables, about 11 very rustic, walk-in camp sites, plus a lovely visitor center with nature displays for adults & kids & a surprise (to us) terrific 15 minute boat/ferry ride over to Bear Island. Round trip cost is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors... More

We found love a little later in life than most so for our fifth anniversary we decided to go to the beach. This place is gorgeous! Had to wait for tropical storm Hermine to pass but once it was gone, the weather was amazing and the sun came out. Went boogie boarding and laid out in the sun. What a... More
