One of Wilmington's early suburbs (1920's), Forest Hills was the first where the streets followed the terrain rather than being laid out in a grid pattern. The automobile made Forest Hills possible - you could live there and still get to work quickly. Many of the early homes were built by employees of the Atlantic Coastline Railroad; some were elegant... More

It's been a favorite place to drive through to get a taste of old Wilmington. If possible, I recommend the walking tour as it makes it so much more meaningful. Forest Hills was where the wealthier people who had lived downtown and could afford cars built their homes. It was interesting to learn that the circular driveways were popular so... More

Forest Hills is an older neighborhood, located approximately 5 miles east of downtown Wilmington, N.C. It is bordered by Market Street and Oleander Drive. Forest Hills was one of, if not THE, nicest neighborhood of Wilmington, long before the city expanded into the suburbs. Most of the streets have very large, old, beautiful shade trees. Many of the homes are... More

If you love classical old money homes, drive through this neighborhood that has been home to the movers and shakers of Wilmington for many decades. Lots of post WWII opulence, manicured lawns and a Rolls Royce or two.

I love to ride a bike through this lovely neighborhood, especially in the spring time. The flowers are fabulous and no two homes look the same!

Forest Hills developed during the eastward expansion of the city just past the mansion district around 1920 and is bordered by Market Street and Oleander Drive. This upscale classic neighborhood contains beautifully landscaped yards, live oaks draped with Spanish moss, an attractive creek and many stately colonial and federal style homes. The historic neighborhood is now nearing 100 years and retains... More

This has been out on tripadvisor for a long time waiting for a review so when we were in Wilmington we looked for it. It's just east of historic downtown Wilmington. The homes were built between 1920 and through the end of 1970. My favorite part was the old stately trees with spanish moss. If you enjoy looking at beautiful... More
