Well worth going this way to get to Watford City from Bismarck!

We crossed Lake Sakakawea going north from Bismarck and then headed west, eventually getting to New Town and Crow Flies High Butte. The views along the way were beautiful. Lots... read more

We crossed Lake Sakakawea going north from Bismarck and then headed west, eventually getting to New Town and Crow Flies High Butte. The views along the way were beautiful. Lots of prairie and open wide open spaces, hardly any cars along the way. We did run into road construction, though, so be aware that you might too. When we got... More

I drove--the top of the butte has a turn around but no dedicated parking spaces. I left my hat in the car so it couldn't strangle me, since the wind made it impossible to wear. There are a couple of benches at different view points, this is a very nice overlook and the signage is still mostly intact.

Out of the way, but really cool. Nice Native American Heritage. Would be a great place for a field trip.

Don't miss this view - this is the best view in the area, especially amazing at sunset! It's only a minute off Hwy 23 on the East Side of the bridge.

Winter or summer this is the most beautiful spot to look out and ponder: among other things to consider what civilization has done to the MHA Nation. In winter it also provides a tobogganing hill of insane pitch - not for the feint of heart. It is a very special place. If you are nearby, take the time to go.
