We went in november, no crowds but unfortunately house wasn't open. The surroundings are unbelievable . On ottawa river surrounded by trails to walk with your dog or not, bike, cross country in winter. Lovely steam at beginning and then a beautiful old chapel for funerals years ago (funny though as no Graves so don't not what they did with... More

A wonderful place to visit even if you just stick to the grounds. There has been a lot of improvements in the grounds as far as walking trails and access in general. A great way to see the house, church and barn. Super spot.

Passing through Montebello and saw the sign for this historic site. We parked up and walked through the woodland to reach the Manoir. We had just missed an English language tour of the house and didn't have the hour to spare to wait for the next tour. However, the walk through the grounds, was very peaceful, the views of the... Our tour guide Joel was very animated, funny and informative. He was able to answer all of our questions and I learnt a lot about Mr Papineau and Quebec. The house is set along the Ottawa River and we had a nice walk around the grounds afterwards.

Yesterday my friend and I went for a guided visit (in English) of the Manoir Papineau. Our tour guide Joel, was very animated, knowledgeable and informative. He made the history of the Manoir interesting and held the attention of his audience. The Manoir itself is pretty and Parks Canada have clearly worked hard to have it as close to the... More

We went on the tour of the manoir and got to learn a little more about the region's history. The first floor is beautifully restored and had many interesting things to look at. Cannot wait until the second floor is renovated. Worth the visit, especially if you are staying at the nearby Chateau Montebello as entrance is included in your... More

You step back to history when the butler of the house invites you in. You are guarded through the manor and the history of the Papineau family is gradually uncovered.

This national historic site allows you to see how 19th Century French Canadians lived. As well, you will learn about a little known period of Canadian history, the Lower Canada Rebellion. Good interpretation .

Parks Canada offer tours in French & English - on the alternate half hour. We arrived late in the day and only had the French tour option - we don't speak French. Don't be downhearted, it was obvious that the French guide gave a very good explanation of M. Papineau's history and involvement in Canada's creation. The house is not... More
