We have been trying to visit this historic site for a while, but it was closed for renovations for a long time. Now that it is open again, we were excited to visit. We had a nice time, but there were a couple of things that left us a bit disappointed.

The grounds are absolutely stunning, with several lovely buildings in addition to the main house. Walking through the woods to get there was pleasant. Note: they do have options for those who need mobility assistance to get to the main building.

The Parks Canada website did not warn us that we would need to book a guided tour of the house. Thankfully there was not a long wait, but on a busier day it might be disappointing to wait a long time for a tour.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the house and the Papineau family. We just wished we could see more of the house! The upstairs was not part of the tour at all.

All in all, it was a worthwhile visit with a couple of minor flaws.

Unfortunately the house itself was closed as the opening was seasonal. The grounds were well maintained and I am sure the tours will be well worthwhile.

Nature and history lovers will enjoy this. The grounds are beautiful with lovely trees and trails. The historic buildings are interesting.
We took a tour of the house. It was good but a bit disappointing. You see only the main floor. The rest of the house is not open for tours. The guide was very good. I think they should have photos of other areas of the house.

Visiting the Manoir Papineau grounds is a must do if in Montebello; Located right in between the Fairmont Montebello hotel and the visitor centre, your journey will take you across a picturesque wooded area filled with sites of interest, including one of the oldest oak trees in Canada, and the actual manoir where Papineau resided. (built in 1851)

The house grounds are well taken care of, including a nice flower patch.
I didn't get a chance to visit the interior of the buildings as they were closed, but I'm sure they would reveal even more nice historical surprises.

The overall visit shouldn't take you more than 1.5-2hours

Tip: If not staying at the Fairmont Hotel, enter and exit the site from the entrance adjoining the visitor centre.

We can better understand current events if we know the story behind how we arrived at this reality. This place is a piece of the puzzle of how Lower Canada fits into Confederation. Low key and ,odest, what it lacks in bel.s and whistles, it makes up for in substance.

We were staying at the Chateau Montebellow so simply walked over. It's a great reminder of the past and they've done a great job of keeping it all together.

The site is closed, you can walk around the site, not sure why this site is listed as historic. It is better to check when the site will open.

This is on the grounds of the Chateau Montebello and was the home of the famous Papineau family of Quebec. A beautiful old home built on lands that were once part of a seignory, it is restored and maintained by Parks Canada. Guides will narrate the history of this beautiful historic home and you will learn about the history of the family and the area. Only the ground floor is available for touring. Well worth the visit.
