We purchased four of their Adoray cheese on September 18 as gifts to bring home to Ontario only to find that they had sold me expired cheese ... this even after I had asked about the expiry of the cheese since the cashier had selected them and bagged them behind the counter ... so there was no way for me to check the BB date of the expiry date!!

I called the store when I arrived home and discovered the problem ... to no avail. The store refused to discuss it with me even though I could provide pictures of the labels!

BUYER BEWARE ...

Honestly I was in there for 5 minutes. They only had one type of cheese available, and ran out of the others. She said they wouldn't have any of the other types for 3-6 months (which is crazy for a place that produces and stores the cheese on site!). Nothing special here.

While they make their own cheese, this is really just a very small shop of cheeses and other items. They make three of their own cheeses, all of which they let us try and all of which were really good. the ladies there were very nice and very helpful. It is worth the quick stop there.

Cute little cheese shop to wander in while exploring local terroir in Montebello and/or on your way to Omega Park. Noteworthy is Manchebello firm cheese in particular (made from pasteurized ewe’s milk /ripened for 6 months) that sells at the whooping $60.00 a kilo (expensive - yes, blame it on the Quebec cheese/milk producing system). We bought a 225 g chunk for $13.50 – it was hazel-nutty perfect addition to our picnic stop. Another distinguished award winning cheese is Tete a Papineau ($45.00 kg) is definitely worth sampling with some grapes, baguette and red wine. Good tip: gas at the near gas station is almost 30% lower than in Montreal (cuz of the proximity to Ottawa) so the bill can happily balance your cheese purchase.

Stopped in while on our way out of town. Staff member was very helpful telling us about the local cheeses and provided samples of each. Well worth the stop if passing through.

I love the cheese from Fromagerie Montebello. But I purchases 3 of their cheese and 2 of them developed serious mold shortly after buying them. I put them in the refrigerator and they quickly developed mold and this we well in advance of their best before dates.

This cheese shop has a wide selection of cheeses and jellies to accompany. The cheese curds are quite tasty and very squeaky! Lots of choices for your favourite wine.

Fromagerie Montebello at 687 A Notre Dame Street, opened in August 2011, and the company has a simple mission: to create quality products that will appeal to visitors. They sell locally made fresh cheese, cheese curd, cheese strings and fine cheeses, as well as a selection of cheeses from across Quebec. The staff are very friendly.

Cheese-maker Alain Boyer makes some very delectable cheese and has won awards in inter-provincial competitions. The artisanal method involves him at all stages of production. As soon as milk arrives, it is pasteurized and lactic ferments are added. The curds are salted, then pressed and sent to one of the three curing rooms, then portioned and wrapped.
